Your One Partner for Food Ingredient Sourcing

Sourcing Built Into the Business

Henry Broch started in 1941 as an ingredient brokerage firm. Eighty-plus years later, that origin story still shapes how we operate. Through Henry Broch Ingredients, we bring customers a wide range of products from vertically integrated farms around the world, processed in state-of-the-art facilities with top-quality certifications. So when we describe ourselves as an ingredient supplier, it’s grounded in decades of direct relationships.

That depth is what lets us handle ingredient sourcing as a true service rather than a hand-off. When a customer brings us a new product, we draw from a vetted global network to identify, qualify, and secure the dry inputs the formula calls for, then forecast demand to keep your line stocked as you scale.

Our Waukegan, Illinois, facility spans 375,000 square feet and features 32 production lines dedicated exclusively to ambient food manufacturing and dry food co-packing. That’s purpose-built infrastructure designed to take your bulk dry packaging needs from concept to shelf with speed and precision.

Why Make the Switch?

Without a partner to handle sourcing, the day-to-day of managing a multi-vendor supply chain looks like this:

Negotiating contracts with multiple ingredient suppliers, each with their own terms, minimums, and lead times.
Coordinating inbound logistics so raw materials arrive at your co-packer in sync with production windows,
Absorbing the cost (and the blame) when one supplier slips and a production run gets pushed.
Carrying the QA burden of vetting and re-vetting every food ingredient supplier on your roster,

Consolidating this work with one manufacturing partner shortens your timeline from concept to shelf, helps protect the working capital tied up in raw material inventory, and gives you a single point of accountability when something needs to move fast.

  • Flexible packaging formats — We run pouches, rigid containers, cartons, cups, and bulk formats, so your product gets the right package for its channel, whether that’s retail, foodservice, or industrial distribution.
  • Right-sized minimum order quantities — Commercial-scale minimum order quantities — Our contract packing programs are structured for brands operating at meaningful commercial volumes. Whether you’re running recurring annual programs or time-sensitive promotional SKUs, we build production schedules around your run frequency and volume needs — not arbitrary minimums that don’t reflect how your business actually operates.
  • In-house R&D — Our formulation team works alongside your brand from the earliest stages of product development. If you need a custom dry blend or a reformulated SKU, we handle it internally with no third-party hand-offs and no delays waiting on outside labs.
  • Ingredient sourcing — Through our global supplier network, we source the dry ingredients your formulas require. Strategic forecasting means we stay ahead of supply chain disruptions before they become your problem.
  • Midwest location, national reach — Based in Chicagoland, we sit at the center of the U.S. food manufacturing corridor with straightforward access to major distribution hubs across the country.

How Henry Broch Handles Procurement

Our team owns the sourcing process end to end. That includes identifying suppliers that meet your specifications, managing quality documentation, and forecasting volume against your production schedule. Whether you need bulk food ingredients for a private label launch, niche functional inputs for a startup formulation, or steady supply for an established SKU, the playbook is the same: we source it, we qualify it, we keep it moving.

Because we operate our own 500,000 sq. ft. Waukegan facility with 32 production lines, sourcing doesn’t happen in a silo. Procurement decisions are made with full visibility into how a given ingredient will run on the floor, which keeps surprises out of your first production run.

Who This Works Best For

Brands that get the most out of our ingredient sourcing model tend to share a few traits. They’re growing fast enough that supplier management is becoming a real drag on the team. They’re launching enough new SKUs that R&D needs a procurement partner. Or they’ve been burned by a fragmented supply chain and want one phone number to call when something needs to change.

We work with household-name CPGs, direct-to-consumer innovators, functional food and nutrition startups, retailers building private label programs, and foodservice suppliers. The common thread isn’t size; it’s a preference for working with a partner who can carry more of the load.

Food Ingredient Sourcing FAQs

How does Henry Broch protect my formula and supplier specs during the sourcing process?

Protecting customer IP is a foundational part of how we operate. Before any work begins, we establish confidentiality agreements covering recipes, specifications, and proprietary processes. That protection extends to the sourcing side, where supplier selection and ingredient documentation are handled within the same confidentiality framework. With 140+ active customers running through our facility, maintaining airtight practices is essential.

What types of ingredients do you source?

Our facility and our sourcing scope are purpose-built for ambient and dry goods, including seasonings, vegetable mixes, bakery mixes, protein blends, dry soup and sauce mixes, dry meal blends, and similar formats.

Can Henry Broch source ingredients for both retail and foodservice versions of the same product?

Yes. Many of our customers run both retail-ready consumer formats (pouches, cartons, rigid containers, cups) and bulk foodservice formats through our facility, often for the same base formula. Sourcing for both channels is coordinated through one team, which keeps ingredient specs and quality standards consistent across every SKU, whatever the package size.
